On Thin Ice

Action adventure · Feature film

In the magnificent Dolomites, an international group of climbers discovers the mummified remains of a First World War soldier, preserved in the glacier ice since 1916. In his hand: an arrowhead, perhaps the core of an ancient Ladin legend. Their mountain guide steals it – and as the storm closes in, the group begins to fall apart.

When an avalanche destroys the hut above them, there is only one way out: through hidden ice caves and forgotten wartime tunnels. But the past catches up with them. Is it an ancient evil awakening – or simply what was in them all along? Will they make it out alive before they turn on each other?

One Day in May

It is spring, the last days of the Second World War, and life – with all its hunger for love – returns to the most inhuman place the world has ever seen: the Mauthausen concentration camp.

Two people find each other. They make love in a machine-gun tower from which the guards were still shooting only days before, and walk down the steps of the quarry where hardly any prisoner survived longer than a month.

“This is a ‘true’ story as I relived it – in the hours when I looked at old notes again and tried to ‘remember’ them.”

Iakovos Kambanellis, preface to his novel
